Infusion Therapy Reimbursement Program
What is it?
Cancer patients at Aultman Hospital have saved several hundred thousand dollars in less than a year through this effort. Infusion Therapy staff research to identify all possible funding sources for the individual's cancer treatment by contacting pharmaceutical companies for support. This program is in addition to the hospital's Patient Outreach department that provides trained financial counselors to place patients in the appropriate financial and medication assistance programs.
Who is it for?
Assistance is provided to low-income and self-pay patients in Aultman Hospital's Infusion Therapy department.
Why do they do it?
The program was developed by Infusion Therapy nurses and managers to help patients eliminate the burden of high medical bills while receiving life-saving, state-of-the-art treatment and to help the hospital recover losses from expensive chemotherapy drugs.
Impact: Since the program’s inception in 2006, approximately 50 cancer patients have had about $950,000 removed from their bills.
