DECATUR COUNTY HOSPITAL AKA DECATUR HEALTH SYSTEM, Oberlin, KS
Diabetic Support Group
What is it?
Through the coordinated efforts of the dietician, dietary manager, education nurse, public relations office and local family physicians, our facility formed a Diabetic Support Group to provide diabetic education to members of our community. Monthly presentations are focused on different critical areas of diabetic care, such as foot care, heart disease, eye care, diet and managing blood sugars. At each meeting, diabetic friendly refreshments are served. Occasionally we provide diabetic food buffets with complementary take-home diabetic cookbooks.
Who is it for?
Diabetic members of our community and their families.
Why do they do it?
To raise awareness in our community of the need to live healthfully and successfully with diabetes, rather than just ignoring it; To form a system of support for diabetics by providing the knowledge and power to deal with their disease.
