LOWELL GENERAL HOSPITAL, Lowell, MA
Chelmsford High School CPR Anytime
What is it?
In partnership with a local high school and a local ambulance service, this program has trained over 200 sophomores in CPR at the health care provider level and given each student a CPR Anytime kit. The goal is for these students to return home and teach CPR to four or five friends and family members, thereby teaching CPR to more than 800-1,000 people in town. The high school has also put AEDs (automated external defibrillators) on every floor of the school building so students will know how to use them.
Who is it for?
The train-the-trainer instruction is for 200 sophomores in a local high school. Ultimately, the project will benefit the entire community as increasingly more people learn CPR.
Why do they do it?
The program was initially sparked by the American Heart Association's new goals of motivating more laypeople to learn CPR, which can increase survival chances for any community member who experiences sudden cardiac arrest.
