MEADE DISTRICT HOSPITAL, Meade, KS
Child Safety

What is it?
This program is designed to increase child safety awareness.  Hospital personnel present programs throughout the three local grade schools and pre-schools on child passenger safety, safe routes to school, bike safety and water safety; to name a few.  Car seats, life jackets and smoke detectors are given away to low income families throughout the year.

Who is it for?
Targets children, ages 0-14 and parent awareness

 Why do they do it?
Originally we thought we would be doing OB so we sent one person to Child Passenger Safety training.  Although we did not pursue OB, we realized the importance of child safety and the lack of community awareness.  While teaming up with the County Health Department and schools, we are able to bring our message to many children and their parents.  For the 2006 calendar year, we checked 61 car seats and distributed 36 car seats to low income families.  We held two bike rodeos and distributed 15 bike helmets.  Distributed and installed 50 smoke detectors and gave away 18 personal floatation devices all with grant money received throughout the year.
