RAWLINS COUNTY HEALTH CENTER, Atwood, KS
Cardiac Rehabilitation Phase III Wellness Program
What is it?
It is an individualized program for patients who have recently graduated from the Phase II program or have completed a similar monitored training program elsewhere. Also, individuals with elevated blood pressure, cholesterol, peripheral vascular disease and/or risk factors are excellent candidates for this program. Participants in Phase III are more independent, require less supervision as each individual monitors their own exercise intensity, and become confident with their own exercise patterns safely. Rawlins County Health Center currently has up to 43 participants from age 50 to 90 years old.
Who is it for?
This ongoing maintenance program allows the aging population of Rawlins County to improve their lifestyle and stay fit in their later years.
Why do they do it?
This program was created when Rawlins County Health Center realized a need for participants to continue an independent program after a cardiac event. As the need grew the program was opened up to more participants whom just wanted to improve their lives through a structured fitness program. Some of the participants have been coming for years, some only come during the winter's months when it is to cold outdoors. Rawlins County Health Center has a prize participant who started the program at 160 pounds and after exercising for five years she now weighs a healthy 136 pounds.
