ST. DOMINIC-JACKSON MEMORIAL HOSPITAL, Jackson, MS
Care-A-Van Outreach Program

What it is?
With a focus on health prevention, this 42-foot mobile screening bus travels throughout Central Mississippi conducting both screenings and education programs for school-age children and the elderly. A typical screening for these groups includes checks for vision and hearing problems, appropriate height and weight, blood pressure and scoliosis. When potential health problems are found, the appropriate referrals are made so patients can receive proper treatment.

Who is it for?
Children who do not have access to preventative health care resources.  Additionally, as part of its mission the Care-A-Van provides blood pressure screenings and educational programs for seniors.

Why do they do it?
The Care-A-Van targets segments of the community where there is an identified need for health screenings. Annually, the Care-A-Van program records over 12,000 direct contacts with children and senior adults at risk for health problems.
