WELLSTAR HEALTH SYSTEM, Marietta, GA
School Health Programs (K-5)
What is it?
School Health Programs are 45-minute preventive care lessons taught in local elementary schools by Lifestyle Instructors. At the school's or the teacher's request, children from kindergarten to fifth grade receive grade-specific lessons with a concentrated focus on hygiene, nutrition, water safety, animal safety, wheeled-sports safety, child-passenger safety, Internet safety, and/or dental care. This program is a significant component of WellStar's comprehensive outreach efforts to the younger members of the community. Each program is provided without passing along any cost to the schools.
Who is it for?
WellStar's School Health Programs serve more than 75,000 elementary school children annually in the rural and urban areas of Cobb, Douglas, Paulding, and Cherokee counties in northwest Georgia.
Why do they do it?
By informing and educating in a manner consistent with the school curriculum and the age of the child, WellStar hopes to create healthy living habits early on and thereby foster an overall healthier way of living for child and family, and help build a strong foundation for community health.
