HOWARD COUNTY GENERAL HOSPITAL– Columbia, Maryland 
Quarterly Clinics

What is it?  
As part of an ongoing partnership with the Mall in Columbia, Howard County General Hospital, a member of Johns Hopkins Medicine, hosts quarterly health education and screening clinics at the mall. The purpose of these quarterly sessions is to promote wellness, prevention, and early detection of a wide range of diseases. 

A different topic is addressed at each clinic. Recent topics include Cardiovascular, Fitness and Sports Medicine, Healthy Kids, and Cancer Prevention and Early Detection. The day’s activities generally include a presentation, a question and answer session, pertinent screenings, and information and demonstrations relevant to the subject. In addition, the hospital provides information on a variety of health related issues such as nutrition, smoking cessation, MRSA prevention, physician fitness and safety. Massage demonstration and acupuncture information is made available; and, when appropriate, activities intended to engage youngsters are presented. 

Who is it for? 
All residents of Howard County.  

Why do they do it? 
This program is intended to assist community residents to live healthier, happier, and more productive lives.  

Impact: 
In an effort to maximize attendance, Quarterly Clinics are held on Saturday, when individuals are generally not at work and are often running errands at the Mall. Approximately 200 – 250 members of the community benefit from this outreach effort at each clinic.
