TIPTON HOSPITAL Tipton , Indiana
“Flu Fighter” Campaign Program

What is it?

Tipton Hospital assists the elementary schools and daycares in Tipton County and surrounding areas by providing their students with supplies that help keep them healthy during the flu season. Every classroom in nine local elementary schools and daycares receives an educational flyer with flu-fighting tips and a 16 oz. bottle of antibacterialhand sanitizer to fight off some of those flu-causing germs that area children come in contact with during the fall and winter. Each year, the hospital’s superhero, “Flu Fighter,” dressed in a mask and a cape, makes her way to the schools to spread the news on how to avoid sharing germs. In addition, each elementary teacher and bus driver are also provided a 2 oz. bottle of hand sanitizer to keep in their pockets, at their desks, or on the bus.

Who is it for?
Elementary schoolchildren and younger kids in daycare settings in the Tipton community.

Why do they do it?
To keep as many area children as possible in school during the flu season and out of the doctor’s office or the hospital. A few years ago, the flu was a major factor affecting attendance at area schools. That prompted the hospital to create the program.

Impact: The campaign touches hundreds of kids each year, as each classroom in these schools receives tips and the sanitizer to use. About 200 children annually receive flu-fighting tips directly from superhero “Flu Fighter.”
