What is it?
A consortium, formally launched in October 2007, that creates a “home without walls” for clinical research in the District of Columbia by combining the significant research and educational strengths of its member institutions and nurturing collective research efforts, as well as broader trust, collaboration, and resource sharing among the member institutions. WRICTS will also partner with the District of Columbia Department of Health to address problems of particular importance to the District, including cancer, diabetes, HIV/AIDS, obesity, and health disparities. For more information, visit http://www.wricts.org.
Who is it for?
The entire Washington, D.C., community and surrounding areas.
Why do they do it?
The District of Columbia is well known for the diversity of its intellectual, political, and cultural resources, but it is also recognized for the often-disproportionate health problems affecting its diverse population. These seven leading academic medical institutions in the DC region will seek a National Institutes of Health Clinical and Translational Sciences Award (CTSA) as a means to further transform health and health care research in and around the city. WRICTS institutions are committed to more rapidly deploying the insights gained through medical research to both improve existing medical therapies and to make already established treatments available to those who need them most.
