LANCASTER GENERAL - Lancaster, Pennsylvania
Miracles through Education and Development

What is it?
Milagro House is a long-term, education-based residential program for homeless mothers and their children sponsored by the hospital and Lancaster General College of Nursing and Health Sciences. The program is designed to empower women to overcome the limitations of their past and to build future health care workers. Milagro House helps participants secure financial aid from state and federal sources and find affordable daycare for their children during school and work hours. The college develops a program that will support the success of each learner, and the hospital assists students in obtaining part time employment at one of its facilities.

Who is it for?
Homeless mothers and their children in pursuit of a better lifestyle.

Why do they do it?
The “Miracles through Education and Development” program educates disadvantaged mothers and prepares them for a career enabling them to become financially and emotionally self-sufficient.

Impact:
Enrollment in the program, which began in the summer of 2008, not only enables Milagro House residents to become students at LG College; they grow and thrive in the process.
