GenerationOne

What is it? 
GenerationOne is a social and educational enrichment program for senior adults. Members meet regularly to socialize, play cards, have lunch, do arts and crafts; participate in exercise and wellness classes; and/or attend educational seminars on computers, insurance, financial planning, etc. Members enjoy the camaraderie of peers while engaging in their favorite activities and/or developing new interests. From bingo to line dancing to Wii bowling, there is something for everyone. In addition, members receive a variety of free or discounted medical screenings, prescription drug discounts at participating pharmacies, and visits and assistance during hospital stays at MUMC. Members receive a monthly newsletter and are entitled to member only discounts at a number of businesses throughout the region.

Who is it for? 
Anyone age 55 or older can join simply by filling out an application and paying an annual $15 membership fee. 

Why do they do it? 
To promote healthy aging by encouraging a physically, mentally and intellectually active life style. 

Impact: 
Nearly 4000 individuals are enrolled in the program and approximately 25 percent are very active.
