Expressive Arts Discovery Program
What is it?
Since 2005, the Expressive Arts Discovery Program, sponsored by the Cancer Center at Flagstaff Medical Center, has allowed cancer patients the opportunity to be artists through hands-on workshops with professional artists, such as photographers, from the Dry Creek Arts Fellowship. The patients’ works of art developed from the workshops are then displayed in a gallery-type setting at The Taylor House, FMC’s hospitality house. All of the patients, their families, the artists, and the Cancer Center staff gather for a reception to admire the artwork and celebrate the program.
Who is it for?
Cancer patients at Flagstaff Medical Center.
Why do they do it?
Participation in these workshops promotes healing and coping, and it provides an outlet for patients experiencing a cancer diagnosis.
