WHITE COUNTY MEDICAL CENTER - Searcy, Arkansas
A Day of Caring

What is it?
Every July since 1997, White County Medical Center organizes A Day of Caring, where free medical, dental, and eye exams are provided to those who cannot afford them. Haircuts, immunizations, pap exams, school supplies, food, Bibles, socks, underwear, diapers, and personal care products are available. Various health screenings and social service information are also provided.

Who is it for?
It is designed as an outreach event to the uninsured and needy in the community.

Why do they do it?
A large population in White County is medically underserved. A Day of Caring catches people with serious medical needs who would otherwise have fallen through the cracks in the health care system.

Impact:
Each year, between 1,300 and 2,200 people receive services. More than 500 volunteers work, representing more than 100 organizations. The 12th Annual Day of Caring in 2008 served more than 1,500 people.
